France has deployed three Mirage fighter jets in Jordan to help in the battle against ISIL Takfiri militants.
The warplanes arrived on Friday as part of the “operational strategy to confront threats in the region,” said Jordanian Army spokesman, Colonel Mamduh al-Amiri, on Saturday.
Earlier in the month, France, which takes part in airstrikes in Iraq by the so-called US-led coalition, said it would send six jet fighters to Jordan.
Al-Amiri refrained from giving the location of the jets' deployment or when the remaining three would arrive.
Jordan is a neighboring country of both Iraq and Syria where ISIL terrorists have sized large swathes of land.
During a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said the deployment of the Mirage fighters would “strengthen our presence in this theater of operations.”
France has already deployed nine Rafale fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates.
Since late September, the US, along with some of its Arab allies, has been conducting airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate. The US had already begun an aerial bombing campaign against Takfiri terrorists in Iraq in August.
