Sweden investigated an underwater vessel near their border last month, and in March, a Swedish passenger airplane almost collided with a Russian military plane. Russian military planes were intercepted in September near Alaska.
“The movement of the these vessels is entirely consistent with provision under international law for military vessels to exercise freedom of navigation in international waters,” the Russian ministry said.
Russian defense minister Sergey Shoigu said long-range bombers will also fly over the Russian border and the Arctic Ocean and will increase security over Crimea.

“In the current situation we have to maintain military presence in the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific, as well as the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico,” Shoigu said. “Due to that, as part of the drills, Russian long-range bombers will conduct flights along Russian borders and over the Artic Ocean.”
